As a Scheduler working for NAVWAR or in any industry.  It is important to always know if your IMS or Project Schedule is in Control.  This lesson will provide simple questions to ask yourself and your stakeholders if your schedule is Controlled.

Note:  These questions are derived by schedulers within Highbury Defense Group based upon their own experiences as a Planner/Scheduler.  This is not to be considered a standard, but it is simply used as guidance.

Here are some questions you can use to gather information to identify if your IMS is in Controlled:

  1. Are all Tasks Baselined?
  2. Is there a Baseline Change Request (BCR) process used to manage baseline changes?
  3. Are additions and deletions within Microsoft Project file controlled?
  4. Are there documented Program-specific instructions / Directives, Schedule Management Plan (SMP), or an IMS guidebook?
  5. Is there a “battle rhythm” for maintaining and using the IMS?
  6. Are IMS updates, files, and records kept?
  7. Is the IMS integrated in the NAVWAR Risk Matrix process?
  8. Is the IMS Architecture (Master, Sub-project structure, configuration management) defined?
  9. Are there IMS data entry cut-off dates/ times for weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly updates?
  10. Have the Entry/Exit Criteria’s been identified and defined?
